What is a network?
A network – or a communication system – is a way of sending information using specialized media. A network connects two or more computers (and/or other devices, such as telephones) using communications devices and transmission media.
A network has two main characteristics:
- Communication happens over a distance, ranging from metres to thousands of kilometres.
- Transmission is by electric, electromagnetic (including radio waves), or light media..
